Looking for a fun way to stay in shape?  Perhaps you secretly dream of being on Dancing With the Stars?  Or maybe you simply need a fun activity for your child to particpate in.  Well, Center Stage Dance Studio may be the place for you.  Run by Katrina Wyckoff and held at the El Conquistador Country Club at 10550 N. La Canada Drive, Center Stage offers a variety of classes for children starting at age 3 (sometimes 2 1/2) and even recently offering classes for adults.

Based on the recommendation of my sister, whose eldest daughter (now eight), has been involved in a variety of dance classes since she was three, we decided to entroll our 3 year-old daughter in the Ballet and Tap class for 3-to-4 year olds.  It is held Thursdays from 4:15 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.  There are also classes held on different days at different times in order to accomodate people’s schedules.  In addition to the Ballet and Tap for youngsters, there are classes offered for older children as well.  They included tumbling classes (a form of gymnastics), cheer classes, Jazz classes, and the like.

Miss Katrina, as her students refer to her, has also recently started a Ballroom Dancing class for adults that is tentatively held in the evenings to try to accomodate the busy schedules of moms (and dads if they so desired).  For our daughter’s class we pay $30 a month and class is once a week.  There are two recitals, one in December and another in May.  Because there are additional fees, both recitals are optional.  There is also no contract so you participate on a month to month basis.

This is the first activity our daughter has participated in and she loves it.  She went from observing the first two classes to fully participating in every class.  She is even going to perform in the recitals.  She loves it so much she comes home and shows us all the new routines and songs she learned in class that day.  I have a feeling we will be seeing Miss Katrina for years to come.
